Workouts and Worship
I’ve been a practicing Catholic my entire life – I even have a minor in Theology. However it wasn’t until I was in my 30s that I started getting serious about my physical health. Always a petite woman, I started to notice the pounds settling and not falling off as easily as they had in the past. I joined a gym but quickly grew bored. It wasn’t until I was introduced to pole fitness (yeah, pole as in pole dancing) that I found my niche. Two years into that, I began practicing yoga.
Between these two forms of exercise, I discovered something. I was actually PRAYING during my workouts. I was thanking God for blessing me with a healthy body that could do the things I was asking it to do. I was thanking God for my job that pays for these two activities (they ain’t cheap, LOL), and most importantly, I was thanking God for the strength and happiness I felt after pushing my body to its limits.
This isn’t to say that I stopped going to church, I still attend on a regular basis and I am forever grateful for my church home. I just found an additional form of worship that feeds both my spirit AND my body, and I would not change that for the world. No matter what is going on in my life or in the world, I know that I can find peace in a pew, on a yoga mat, or even on a pole.
